Join Us in Honouring Ombuds Day!
Every second Thursday in October, we join Ombudsman around the world in celebrating Ombuds Day. The 2024 theme is “Ombuds: Here to Hear You”. The goals of Ombuds Day are to improve public awareness of ombuds, to connect ombuds in their respective communities, and to encourage greater use of ombuds programs and services.
Also known as ombudsman, or ombudspersons or ombudsmen, ombuds are confidential, impartial, and independent experts in fairness. While each ombuds office has a different mandate, they all have one thing in common: they advocate for the principles of fairness and equity.
“Our office is here to ensure that every Albertan feels supported to voice their concerns about government services. We believe that transparency in government is essential for fostering trust, and we are committed to advocating for fairness. As your Alberta Ombudsman, I am proud to stand alongside fellow ombuds who strive to ensure that every voice is heard, and every concern is addressed.”

Role of the Alberta Ombudsman
Every Albertan has the right to be treated fairly in the provision of public services. The Ombudsman protects this right by promoting standards of fairness and has the authority to make recommendations if an investigation reveals unfairness.
The Ombudsman is an Officer of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, reporting directly to the Assembly. The Ombudsman is impartial, operating independently from the Alberta government, political parties and individual elected officials. Our goal is to ensure that everyone in Alberta has access to support when they need it most.
Why Ombuds Day Matters
Ombuds Day is more than a celebration; it’s a chance to highlight the crucial role ombuds play in our communities. It serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and the need for accessible complaints processes that empower individuals to express their concerns.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
On Ombuds Day, let’s celebrate the power of accountability and the importance of having a dedicated resource for Albertans. Your trust in our office inspires us to keep working for a fairer, more transparent government.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Together, we can ensure that everyone’s voice is heard!
